ARTIST STATEMENT
My name is Carol Woodard and I have been a professional interior designer in Saratoga, California for 35+ years, focusing on whole house remodeling.
I have also always related to the interpretation of abstract art, but during the last few years, I came upon Alcohol Ink – I truly found my media! I have begun creating Alcohol Ink art as an adjunct to creating impactful color into your home.
It is done on nonporous materials like Yupa paper, glass, metal, tiles and anything that will not absorb the alcohol ink. It allows for rich deep colors not easily obtainable with any other media. The alcohol ink is applied to the surface and then manipulated in many different ways. More colors are added in layers and the designs are created by the interaction of the different inks.
Although some aspects can be purposeful, it is mostly free flowing. You will be struck by your own personal emotional reaction and, each time that you look at it, you will see and respond to different elements. Different pieces will speak to you on various levels, which is what it is supposed to do – touch your heart and soul – it should not just be pretty.
